For a small company, we get a lot of media coverage. Since 2018 our data has been mentioned in the press over 1,500 times, underlining both the media interest in taxpayer-funded government contracts and our established position as the market’s reference data source.
We strive to be a great business, but what we do also has a wider impact: the enhanced transparency that Tussell fosters helps to make public procurement more efficient and competitive, which ultimately improves value for money in public services.
Tussell has an entrepreneurial culture and is focused on growing sustainably through customer sales, not by raising successive rounds of VC funding. The team is founder-led and consists of about 35 employees with an average age of 28, so it’s a dynamic environment where you will know everybody’s name. We have a consistent track record of hiring energetic people early in their careers, developing home-grown talent and rewarding success.
As one of four new Junior Account Managers that we’re hiring, you will join a team with the crucial responsibility to look after our existing customers during their subscription term.
Team success is measured by the proportion of existing clients that renew their annual subscription and adopt additional services.
During your first three months you will undergo on-the-job training to make you a proficient user of our product, to learn about the industry that we operate in, and to learn all of our systems and processes for looking after clients. In this initial phase your job will be to handle routine customer support tasks to free up experienced Key Account Managers for more value-added activities.
Once you've learned the ropes after three months or so, you can expect your role to evolve in a way that suits your skills and temperament. If you're more of a natural seller, you could be given a smaller group of accounts with high growth and upsell potential. Meanwhile, if customer service is where you thrive, you might be focused on maintaining a larger group of more stable accounts. Or perhaps it’s lead generation you enjoy, or engaging our clients through community-building.
Experience & Attributes:
Essential
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent vocational training
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- High energy and customer-centric; you love being customer-facing
- Resilient and calm under pressure
- Empathic, open to feedback and ambitious to continuously improve
Preferable
- Genuine interest in current affairs and/or public policy
- Previous experience in customer service, sales or account management
- Proficiency in Excel and data savvy
- Comfortable on camera and experience of social selling
- Familiarity with Hubspot CRM software
Compensation:
The starting salary is £30,000 per annum, with annual salary reviews every December after 12 months of tenure. In addition, after three months you will be eligible for variable commission based on team results so you can share in the added-value that you’re contributing.

Progression:
We understand that people like to stay fresh and motivated. We believe that it takes around two years to really master a role, so expect to prove yourself over that time horizon. After that, career development at Tussell could take many different forms: investing in your skill-set to do your current job with more autonomy, or taking on management responsibility within your current team, or moving across to a different team like New Business Sales, or Marketing, or Product.
