I set up Tussell in 2015 to fill the gap for reliable information on government contracts - a huge market hiding in plain sight.
The government - from the Ministry of Defence or the NHS to your local council - spends more than £260 billion each year buying goods, works and services from businesses and charities. This spending – referred to as “procurement” – makes up almost a third of government expenditure and plays an essential role in delivering public services such as health, transport, housing and national security.
Yet before Tussell came along, there was no trusted source of information on all of this activity. 10 years later and we’ve mapped the market to provide a complete picture of what is being purchased, from whom at what price.
This essential information has made it easier for the public and private sectors to do business together, and for journalists to hold the government to account that contracts offer value for money.
Data has been described as the “oil of the 21st century” - in other words the essential raw material that powers the knowledge economy. I discovered this in my first job: as an investment banker who gathered together information, analysed it and made recommendations on the back of it. Providing essential information to business users has defined my career ever since.
Today, Tussell powers our client’s decision-making on governments contracts in over 250 firms. And we’ve become the market’s trusted data source, cited by the press more than 1,500 since 2018.
Our culture is simple: to make Tussell a place where people enjoy working in a growing business that does something useful and is the market leader in our sector.
We’re always on the look-out for talented people who are motivated by the same things as us. If that sounds like you, then apply for one of our open roles or get in touch!
